Minister of Empty Buildings

Hey Mark Carney, I just wrote my own job description for you to offer me. And Prime Minister Mark Carney, I accept the position of Minister of Empty Buildings… with all my heart, I accept 💖

Let’s fix housing, grow food, and create jobs together.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Mayor of Toronto Olivia Chow, what do you think? Does this idea have value?

My first move would be to declare one empty warehouse or government building in each Canadian city a safe haven for survivors of child sexual violence. Why? Because right now, 8.5 million of us are fighting just to find a place to be supported. These spaces would be run by trained professionals with lived experience and the education to keep survivors alive. Think of places like The Gatehouse—we need more Gatehouses. This project wouldn’t just return billions to the economy—it could unleash trillions. How’s that for an idea!

Sending love and solutions on this cloudy sunny day 🍅 🩷 🌞

Check out Avivo Villiage from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They build indoor shelter communities, designed to give people experiencing unsheltered homelessness a safer and stable place to stay, with a goal of moving them into permanent housing Instead of crowded, traditional shelters, it offers private, lockable rooms that give people more safety, dignity, and personal space. But what makes it stand out is the support. Alongside a place to stay, residents have access to mental health care, addiction treatment, and help finding permanent housing. It’s a model that goes beyond emergency shelter creating a pathway to stability and a chance to rebuild.
