I do not write to be good. I write to be free.
It feels surreal and powerful to see this poster. That lands.
On May 12 I will be at the The Gatehouse‘s Transforming Trauma Together Festival. It is free.
I am not here to teach you how to write.
I have never studied writing. I do not care about rules. I do not write for an audience.
I write to survive.
I wrote my book to heal. No plan. No strategy. Just truth. If anyone was in the room with me, it was my daughter.
If the words do not come, I make pictures. I will bring my collages. Same thing, different language.
We are going to write.
Short bursts. One word. Two minutes. No time to hide.
No performance. No fixing it up. No pretending.
If you are carrying something, bring it.
You will leave with something real on the page. Something that belongs to you.
I will also be speaking on a panel about my lived experience with child sexual violence.
I have been on stages my whole life.
This is different.
I am nervous. And I am ready.
Come.
