I am a writer. Lara St. John is a world renowned violinist. We tell our stories through different art forms, but we are united by the same purpose. We are both survivors of child sexual violence and warriors committed to ending it through education, justice, and love.
I had the privilege of attending the premiere of Dear Lara, and it is nothing short of extraordinary. It is raw, courageous, heartbreaking, and ultimately hopeful. After seven years of work, Lara has created a film that gives voice to survivors and invites all of us to confront a truth that is too often hidden.
From June 23 to July 1, Canadians can rent Dear Lara on a Pay What You Can basis, making this important film accessible to everyone. Even more meaningful, a portion of every rental goes directly to The Gatehouse in Toronto, a charity dedicated to supporting survivors of child sexual violence as they heal and rebuild their lives.
Lara made the remarkable decision to put this film into the hands of the public rather than chase awards because creating change matters more than receiving accolades. That courage deserves to be celebrated.
Please watch it. Share it. Talk about it. Every viewing helps amplify a message that every child deserves to grow up safe, believed, and protected.
Thank you, Lara, for using your voice, your artistry, and your heart to shine a light into the darkness. Together, we will continue fighting for a future built on education, justice, love, and hope.
